Reading’s Director of Football Nicky Hammond believes that the Royals can now attract big name signings for the summer.

The completed takeover from Thames Sports Investments means there will be a considerable amount for Brian McDermott to spend in the summer, which was certainly not the case for Steve Coppell six years ago. Offers have already been shipped out at this early stage for Forest right back Chris Gunter and Watford defender Adrian Mariappa.

Speaking to Jonny Fordham of the Reading Post, Hammond said: ‘What we found in 2005/06 was that, because it was our first time in the Premier League, it was very difficult to attract players – now people know what Reading is all about.’

‘There are a number of boxes to be ticked when you look at signing a player. Premier League experience is a plus – but that`s not all we look for. However, the most important thing is that the player will be the right fit and that they want to come to this club and play for Reading.”
