Hammond expecting quiet transfer window

Director of Football Nicky Hammond has revealed that the club will probably not very active in the upcoming transfer window.

The reasons for this are the new Financial Fair Play program, which clubs are now making an effort to abide by, with sanctions coming in heavy fines and point deductions. We submitted our accounts last month and despite some doubts, Hammond is confident we will pass.

Speaking exclusively to Charles Watts of the Reading Post, Hammond revealed that: ‘The slight difficulty is that the rules for FFP will change again. We find ourselves in a difficult position for the January 2015 transfer window, with limited scope to bring people in.’

‘However, once we go into the 2015/16 season, then the rules on FFP are changing again. It looks like there will be more flexibility. We will have players going out of contract, therefore our wage bill will be reduced, therefore we will have much more scope to operate in.’

At least we now know early on we are not going to spend much at all, rather than giving us false hope! This shouldn’t stop us from using the loan market though, but considering we now have a large amount of players returning from injury, Adkins may not even need to use that.
