Nicky Hammond has spoke following Reading’s failure to sign anyone in the January transfer window.

The Royals’ director of football was probably quite bored last month, considering no funds were available and any deals would have had to be for nominal fees. Many fans have shown their disappointment in the club not bringing anyone in, with the ownership situation the main source of the problem.

Speaking to the Press Association, Hammond said: ‘We have got a number of players coming back from injury and we have a strong squad. Unfortunately the ownership issues prevented us from adding to the squad, but more importantly we did not lose anyone and managed to keep the group together.’

A man who usually takes a lot of stick at the club, but even he was powerless to what has occurred over the past few months concerning the ownership. He rightly says it was good enough business keeping the core of the squad together, who he believes are capable enough of getting promotion from this division.
