Guthrie hopes he has repaid Royals fans

Reading midfielder Danny Guthrie has said he is glad to be in the Reading side and hope his mistakes of the past can be forgotten.

The 25-year old has had a very mixed start to his Reading career, having scored against European champions Chelsea, yet refusing to play against Sunderland in December, leaving his Royals future in massive doubt. However, Guthrie has worked his way into the side and is in good form, which the midfielder seems to agree with.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, the former Newcastle midfielder said: ‘I’m getting stronger in each game, and I got stronger as the game went on against Newcastle. It’s the same for anyone – if you get a run of games you get physically sharper and I feel good at the moment and in a good place.’

‘I’m really enjoying it and whatever has gone on in the past is clearly out of the window. I felt like I owed everyone not just a performance, but a bit of form to get us out of the hole we were in. I feel like I’m slowly doing that. It’s massive to win. We’re strong at home but hadn’t picked up a win away from home so it was a big three points for us.’

It was clear before ‘Sunderland’gate that Guthrie had great talents and we would have benefited hugely by keeping him here. Brian has given him a second chance and he is taking it, putting in some fine shifts in the past few games. Ledge does seem to bring out the best in him, with their partnership against Newcastle seeming to work well.
