Following the Latics 5-0 defeat to Hereford at the weekend, boss John Sheridan moved to bring in Reading defender Scott Golbourne for a month on loan.

The 20 year old left back signed for Reading from Bristol City in 2006 after impressing in the FA Youth Cup and has been a regular in the England youth set up.

He made 2 appearances this season both coming in the Carling Cup. Last season he made his Premier League debut in the home defeat to Bolton Wanderers.

Golbourne is an attacking left back who likes to get forward at every opportunity and should fit in with Oldham’s attacking style.

Golbourne has had previous loan spells with Wycombe Wanderers & Bournemouth, both initially one month loan spells, which were later extended after impressive performances.

Speaking earlier on the RFC website Golbourne said,

‘I’m excited about the move and I’m looking forward to getting some games under my belt,’

‘I’m a southern boy and it is a challenge coming up here, but it will be something different and I am very much looking forward to my time here.’

Golbourne will go straight into the side for the game against local rivals Stockport this weekend.

Oldham fans, let us know your reaction to today’s signing. Is it what you need or should you be strengthening elsewhere?
