Nigel Adkins’ mood seemed slightly better this week, probably as he could justify his many changes this time!

The Royals boss witnessed his side comfortably bypass Rotherham 3-0 at the Madejski Stadium, thanks to a brace from Simon Cox and Jamie Mackie’s first goal for the club. It was certainly an easier post-match reflection from the manager, who was highly questioned on Saturday.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website after the victory, Adkins said: ‘It’s a very good night: 3-0, clean sheet and players coming back. We score goals and we want to be an attack-minded side, especially at home. We have gone and scored three goals at home again.’

‘If we can make sure that we keep it tight at the other end of the pitch as a team then we give ourselves an opportunity. The team has kept a clean sheet tonight, scored three good goals and it could`ve been more. We want to continue the positivity and keep moving forward.’

Adkins was bold and made five changes to the team, but to give him credit, all of them were justified. It was great to see Williams back on the turf, Ferdinand and Kelly looked solid, while Cox and Mackie won us the game. I can’t imagine he will be shifting the team about again!
