Vital Reading looks at some potential free transfer targets for the Royals this summer. This time, we look at potential attacking midfielders we could add to the squad over the next few months.

Zoltan Gera – Recently released by West Brom – At 35, he could probably only have one or two more seasons in him, but having decent experience in both the Premier League and Championship, he would be a valuable buy. The right-wing days of the Hungary international are probably over, but could offer a decent option just behind the striker.

Guly Do Prado – Recently released by Southampton – A player that Nigel Adkins will be familiar with, after signing him at Southampton and becoming a key player in their consecutive promotions. The former Fiorentina player scored 13 goals in 86 appearances for Southampton, which isn’t a bad return. He still made nine appearances in his last season with the Saints and could become the first Brazilian player to play for the Royals, if Adkins opts to bring him here.

Conor Henderson – Recently released by Hull – The 22-year old was once likened to David Beckham in his early days for his dead-ball ability, but has suffered a fall from grace after being highly-rated at Arsenal in his youth career. He failed to make an appearance at Hull, despite a loan spell at Stevenage earlier in the year – it would be a punt, but could Adkins relight his career and bring out his potential?

Anthony Pilkington – Out of contract at Norwich – The Republic of Ireland international is yet to agree a new contract at Norwich, so is now allowed to talk to other clubs. Pilkington is capable of playing all across the midfield, but has never played in the second tier, despite playing in the other three professional divisions. At 26, you could argue he is coming into his peak and would be a great addition.
