I think it`s fair to say the point at Middlesbrough was a decent result and one that we would not have achieved a couple of months ago. Ok Boro are not the greatest side we will face in this division, half their side is made up of Celtic old boys, but it was the kind of place we were slipping up at. Since the turn of the year we have had some fantastic results under Brian McDermott, but we got nothing at Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United and Blackpool – all similar away games.
What more can we say about the man who got us that point? Jimmy Kebe is immense! Ridiculed by many not so long ago, he is now looking like a world beater and god knows how McDermott has got the best out of him. I would like to think it`s what our gaffer has been saying to him but the Malian winger still doesn`t speak a word of English, perhaps Kalifa Cisse has been translating for him – if so its about the only thing he is of use for right now!
One other point from the Boro game is Matt Mills gesture at the end, climbing into the crowd and throwing his shirt to the travelling supporters. It`s clearly been a tough week for the Royals centre back and we all do things in the heat of the moment that we regret, but he put in a decent performance and is clearly doing his upmost to win back any fans who had turned on him after his actions on Tuesday against QPR.
The games don`t get any easier though with a trip to Leicester on Wednesday night and back to the stadium where we secured promotion to the Premier League in 2006, almost to the day. Whilst it certainly won`t be as an exciting as that spring afternoon, we should be in for a good game and judging by Leicester`s draw with Coventry yesterday, they are more than beatable.
Saturday see`s West Brom visit the Mad Stad and rumours are they will bring 40 coaches down, as they bid to avenge that FA Cup 5th round defeat last month. They will be sure to get some good support and a bumper crowd is expected, upwards of 20,000.
