Defoe rumour gathers pace

Rumours that Reading are poised to sign Jermain Defoe are gradually increasing.

William Hill have slashed odds on Reading to be his next club, from 10/1 to 6/4 favourites* within a 24-hour period, with QPR also reportedly interested with 9/2 odds. Rumours have also fluctuated on the social networking site ‘Twitter’, that the Royals are showing genuine interest in the 29-year old.

Reading boss Brian McDermott has said that there is no interest in the England international, even though those same words were uttered nearly a year ago when asked about striker Adam Le Fondre. However, McDermott did inform GetReading that Nicky Hammond and Daniel Levy are in constant contact with each other.

This would be an amazing coup for Brian McDermott if it was to come off, with an outstanding partnership of Pavel Pogrebnyak and Jermain Defoe a possibility. Although, where would this leave the likes of Jason Roberts, Noel Hunt, Adam Le Fondre and Simon Church? Is this being unfair on them?
