Defoe rumour gathers pace

Rumours that Reading are poised to sign Jermain Defoe are gradually increasing.

William Hill have slashed odds on Reading to be his next club, from 10/1 to 6/4 favourites* within a 24-hour period, with QPR also reportedly interested with 9/2 odds. Rumours have also fluctuated on the social networking site ‘Twitter’, that the Royals are showing genuine interest in the 29-year old.

Reading boss Brian McDermott has said that there is no interest in the England international, even though those same words were uttered nearly a year ago when asked about striker Adam Le Fondre. However, McDermott did inform GetReading that Nicky Hammond and Daniel Levy are in constant contact with each other.

This would be an amazing coup for Brian McDermott if it was to come off, with an outstanding partnership of Pavel Pogrebnyak and Jermain Defoe a possibility. Although, where would this leave the likes of Jason Roberts, Noel Hunt, Adam Le Fondre and Simon Church? Is this being unfair on them?

    Take him.

Did AVB not say only a few days ago that Defoe has been told he is not leaving. To be fair he is the only sriker we have at the moment and it would take the signing of 3 strikers to be able to let him go. I cannot see that happening and he will be of use more under AVB than Harry ‘never rotates the squad’ Redknapp. We will be fighting on 4 fronts next season.

He’s not the only striker we have! Harry Kane is the future Bristol!

It all depends whether AVB brings in strikers of his own, considering Defoe is your only remaining striker. I personally would be ecstatic to have him at our club. I think he is so underrated by many and should have started for England IMO, prolific finisher.
