Reading’s development coach Chris Cummins was very pleased with the performance of his under 21 side, also reserving praise for the senior players in the side.

The Royals defeated Norwich at the Madejski Stadium yesterday and it was relatively comfortable for a side that contained mainly senior names. Jordan Obita opened the scoring, before a Dominic Samuel brace sealed the victory in the second period. The most notable name on the teamsheet was Adam Federici, who captained the side on his comeback from injury.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Cummins said: ‘It took us a while to get going. We were a bit flat to start with but once we got going I thought we really controlled the game and I couldn’t see us losing it. I felt the young players really expressed themselves tonight, and it was great for Samuel to get his first goals of the season.’

‘The senior boys again did a great job for us and it was important for them to get 90 minutes under their belts. Feds was skipper for the night and he led by example. His distribution was great and he communicated really well with the defence. Pearce and Morrison looked really comfortable at the back and Harte did it everything right – as always.’
