Steve Clarke was obviously impressed with his side’s showing against Sheffield Wednesday, mainly due to the number of chances that we created.
The Royals picked up a crucial and deserved win at the Madejski, with first-half goals from Pogrebnyak and Chalobah sealing the win. The second half should have seen more goals too, as McCleary had a goal wrongly ruled out for offside and Robson-Kanu missed a penalty.
Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Clarke said: ‘There haven’t been too many wins this season for the fans to go home and enjoy, so I hope they enjoyed that one. I thought the team was good first half, we played a lot of good stuff and created some good chances.’
‘If anything, 2-0 at half time didn`t do us justice. We showed a great resolve to see the game out. We didn`t concede, we didn`t give an inch of ground, we stood there and fought toe to toe with Sheffield Wednesday and got a really good shape which gave us a 2-0 win.’
That first half was probably the best football we have played all season, against a good side, with a very good defensive record too. The Steve Clarke effect doesn’t look like wearing thin anytime soon, we look a completely different side if you compare it to two months ago.
