Nigel Adkins has never been a massive fan of Royston Drenthe and admits he will probably not play for the club again.

The one-time Dutch international is currently training with the under 21 squad and will remain that way until he finalises a move away from the club. Adkins also criticised Drenthe’s antics on social media, where he revealed he was no longer wanted at the club.

Speaking to the Reading Post, Drenthe said: ‘Royston will be staying with the U21s group for the foreseeable future. I’m moulding a group of players who are young, hungry, ambitious and have great attitudes together. Royston is looking for pastures new.’

‘We’ll just see how that progresses. The transfer window is still open, Royston has an agent who has been actively looking to find pastures new. The club will be doing likewise and, as you see with many players out there, people sometimes move and that’s the reality of football.’

There is seemingly no way back for Royston now, which does leave us short on the wings, with Jobi also now gone. I wouldn’t have been against him being given another chance if he sorted his attitude out, but unfortunately, that probably will not change.
