Nigel Adkins felt Blackburn’s second goal was the killer blow for his side, who had the better of the first half.

The Royals went behind early on to Gestede’s header, but deservedly equalised just before half time, through Murray. However, Ben Marshall’s well-executed free kick and a second from Gestede sealed the points for Rovers, who clearly the better side in the second half.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Adkins said: ‘As the away side I thought we did well in the first half and Blackburn are in good form. We hit the crossbar at 0-0 and deserved to get an equaliser when we did. At half time the vibe was good in the dressing room.’

‘I said to the players to have belief and make it the first time we’ve come from behind to win a game. We came out brightly again, but then in my opinion, it’s not a free kick for their goal. So then their confidence grew, the crowd helped them and they’ve gone on to win’.

I have to disagree with him about the free-kick, it was naive from Robson-Kanu and a clear foul. What he should be worried about was how we never responded from that, despite only being one goal behind – it is becoming a constant theme at the moment and needs to change.
