Nigel Adkins was obviously pleased with his side’s victory against Charlton and highlighted our resiliency in the game.

It was far from the greatest game at the Valley, but managed to grind out a result and a clean sheet, thanks to a superb strike from Danny Williams. The victory made our play-off spot even more solid, now six points ahead of seventh-placed Nottingham Forest.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Adkins said: ‘We’ve come away from home again and won, which is five wins and one draw in our last six away games. We’re winning away from home and we kept a clean sheet, that’s important. Charlton play some good football.’

‘But we had a good defensive shape, we had to grind it and in the second half the momentum was with us. The goal was coming, we were on the front foot at that point. It’s an important three points and the supporters go away happy, like we do!’

As much as we didn’t pose a massive attacking threat, as the gaffer mentions, our defensive organisation was very good, restricting Charlton to very few chances. I suppose it helped with them having Church up top, but a pleasing clean sheet and result nonetheless!
