Reading manager Brian McDermott has paid credit to the Reading fans, saying how they were a reason why he signed his new deal with the Championship side.

The 50-year old was reportedly being chased by premier League side Wolves for their vacant maanagers spot. However, after having a conversation with new owner Anton Zingarevich on Monday, McDermott commented on how he felt Reading was the place he wanted to be and signed his new three-and-a-half year deal yesterday.

He told the Official RFC site: ‘We first talked about this contract around a month ago so I am really pleased to have got an agreement. From my perspective what was really important was to clarify things with Anton. I was with him on Sunday, just the two of us, and we had another conversation on Monday.’

‘Over the last few days I’ve listened to lots of radio and everything, and in the days when a lot is said about Twitter and Facebook, I just have to say the fans here mean so much to me, and they know that. I’ve said many times that the supporters are so very important, we have a great bond between the players, staff and fans and that is massively important to me.’

McDermott will now prepare his side for tomorrow’s game against Middlesbrough, which is sure to be a crucial fixture in the promotion push. Reading are currently fourth in the Championship and five point off second place with a game in hand on Southampton.
