Hope Akpan impressed on his international debut for Nigeria, rounding off a good international break for our players.
The Royals midfielder started in central midfield, alongside John Obi Mikel, as the Super Eagles defeated Sudan 3-1. Akpan had a good chance to score on his debut, but didn’t take his first half chance. Bar this, it seems that Hope had a very promising start for his country.
Delighted is an understatement. I have realised a small dream today making my international debut for @NGSuperEagles

Hope Akpan’s discipline allowed Mikel freedom. Lawal showed strength, intelligence, Aluko’s technique was a class above most

As you can see by these tweets, it seems Hope made a very good first impression, and hopefully that will give him confidence for our run of games. In a strange turn of events, the Nigeria coach was sacked earlier today, but hopefully that won’t stop him getting future call-ups.
