Adkins taking the positives

Nigel Adkins was happy enough with his team’s showing against Bolton, mainly because of the clean sheet they came away with.

The Royals played out a frustrating stalemate with Bolton on Saturday afternoon, with some fans being heavily critical with our lack of attacking football on display. There were some boos at half-time and full-time, but the manager still feels his side should have won the game.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Adkins said: ‘We’re looking to build some momentum and it’s another clean sheet. there’s a tinge of frustration because we’ve had more than enough opportunities to win the game. The first half hour was nowhere near good enough.’

‘We had the same starting eleven from last week, but we sat back too much. I wanted us to be better but at the same time Bolton weren’t threatening. Like I say, we’re looking for building blocks and we’ve conceded far too many goals this season, but today is a clean sheet.’

I agree we have to try and look at the positive side of a clean sheet, even if the game was far from a spectacle. We had been conceding two many goals in recent months, so a clean sheet against a good side is no shame – we certainly had the chances to take all the points.
