Nigel Adkins has been speaking after Reading’s loss to Swansea, saying he was pleased with the workout, but is still looking for his squad to improve.

It is fair to say that the Royals struggled against their Premier League opponents, but did not play bad by no means. Adkins was more focused on letting the majority of his players get 90 minutes under their belt, before the season opener against Ipswich this Saturday.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Adkins said: ‘From our point of view it was an excellent work out. Swansea were very, very good – you could see that in the formation that they play and the way they keep the ball. We knew that would be the case and I wanted the players to have to work hard today.’

‘It’s fair to say we probably won’t play a team as well equipped as Swansea in the Championship this season. We didn’t threaten their goal or penetrate as much as we would have liked to, but if you give the ball away it’s hard to get it back from a team like Swansea. Our mind set has to be that we have to build and improve.’
