Adkins slams poor away form

Nigel Adkins was not pleased with his side’s defending once again, also stating we concede too many goals away from home.

The Royals suffered an eighth defeat in twelve games yesterday, as a disastrous first half performance against Cardiff cost us in a 2-1 defeat. Alex Pearce put into his own net, before giving away a penalty and seeing red. Hector got one back late on, but wasn’t enough.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC site, Adkins said: ‘We came away against a team who are in good nick at home, we quietened the crowd, but then conceded the softest goal. We have conceded an awful goal on half time. It’s a simple ball over the top, we have to defend better.’

‘It’s a penalty, but it’s not a red card. His angle is going away from goal, we’ve got a covering defender. We’ve conceded too many goals away from home and I won’t hide away from that fact. It’s no good me saying how hard the lads are working, because it’s about results.’

We are hearing the same stuff from Adkins quite regularly now, saying the team will work hard to put it right, but what work is going on the training ground. We can’t defend or score set-pieces at the moment – it is sloppy defending which is really costing us at the moment.
