Reading manager Brian McDermott has stated his delight at the presence of the Royals’ new potential owner Anton Zingarevich, after he visited the club for the first time since his takeover bid as the Royals took on Burnley.

The Russian tycoon, 29, is on the verge of completing a £25m takeover at the club where he was educated over 10 years ago. The deal is due to be completed in March for 51% of the club, taking over from current owner Sir John Madejski.

McDermott, who has welcomed the move, said: ‘He will have enjoyed the victory, that was the most important thing. It’s good for him to watch the game, have a look at the stadium and the training ground and what we’re about really. I think it’s important to feel the environment.’

Zingarevich was seen with his wife Katsia taking pictures on his phone and even went onto the pitch hours before the game. A Jason Roberts goal was enough to see the Royals go up to third in the table after a fourth consecutive win.
