Why Rodgers must stay

It`s fair to say that Brendan Rodgers is under some pressure right now and sections of the fans who welcomed his appointment in the summer, are now calling for his head. With his team in 21st place in the Championship and all three teams below us already sacking managers thus far, it`s hardly surprising in the fickle world of modern day football that questions are being asked. However in my opinion, Rodgers must stay and be allowed to see this through.

Saturday was disappointing to say the least, we should have won that game and football is not judged on the amount of chances you create, it`s the one`s you convert that matter. However you cannot argue that some of the football was a delight to watch and if we had more than one real goal threat then we would surely have put three points on the board, and that applies to many other games this season not just this one.

And this is why Rodgers must be given time to turn things around. The position we are in is not solely his fault, and there are a number of other`s who must take the blame and one of them is Steve Coppell. Don`t forget this run of form doesn`t just date back to August, it goes as far back as January and ever since we have turned in relegation form.

While he managed to address a few of the squads needs in the summer window, he spent most of that time waiting for the ‘star` players to be sold and then had to react when they finally did depart. After half a season to address where the problems are, I feel he needs to be given this window to boost his squad and ship out the players that are not performing, but have to play because of our lack of attacking options. Jimmy Kebe and Shane Long are the names that spring to mind.

With Gunnar Thorvaldsson all but signed, our options up top are already looking better and if Rodgers can manage to secure the signature of one other striker to relieve the early pressure on the Icelander, even if it just on loan, then things will be looking up.

If come March / April, things are still not any better and those players he managed to bring in are not improving things and we are still in danger of relegation, then perhaps then is the time to re assess his position. I`m confident that if he is given the time, that situation would not arise.

Many accepted that this wasn`t going to be an easy job to take on with the club on the slide and a mid table finish was to be the best we could realistically expect, especially with the ‘cloth cutting` going on. Now is the time to back the manager and not turn against him.
