What The Managers Said

Reading and Wolves drew 1-1 at the Mad Stad on Saturday, this is what the two managers had to say after the game.

Steve Coppell

‘I thought we were going to see out the game. We spent huge spells of the match on top and had more opportunities but in the end it was us who were having to defend well.

‘I think the crucial moment of the match was us not getting a goal at the beginning of the second half.

‘I thought at 1-0 up we had enough opportunities to kill the game off.

‘But credit to them, they came back well in the second half, and in the end they were looking the sharper definitely.’

Coppell made time to praise the impact of goalscorer Bobby Convey.

‘Bobby was superb, we tailored his role to suit his attacking play,’ Coppell added.

‘He scored the goal but his passing, movement and all-round contribution was outstanding.’

Glenn Hoddle:

‘I thought we played extremely well in the second half and in the end I wanted the game to go on another 10 minutes,’ he said.

‘To be fair they could have buried us in the first half but I’m delighted with the way we turned things around.

‘We had to try to win the game, we didn’t set out to get a point, but we’ll take it now as Preston have lost and Palace have drawn, so it’s been a good day for us.

‘They are the side of the moment, and rightly so, but there wasn’t anything between the two teams.

‘I thought the front men did well for us. Frankowski’s all-round play has surprised me, as well as his general awareness.

‘From half-time onwards we could have caved in, but we stepped up a gear and they found it hard to keep with us, so credit to the lads.

‘With Miller and Aliadiere we have people who are a threat going forward.’

Reading have been the model of consistency this season, it will be very interesting to see whether Coppell goes for any major changes over the summer. We look forward to welcoming you to SW6

They deserve everything as they have gone through almost the entire season without so much as a hiccup. I guess the record number of points is still up for grabs. It will be a different dressing room come the end of this season…
