Reading claimed victory in a must win game over relegation rivals Millwall. Yakou Meite scored twice and Sam Baldock netted the other as the Royals grabbed three massive points and lifted the pressure on manager Paul Clement.

Meite’s first was a header that he glanced in at the far post from a Tyler Blackett cross. Six minutes later Murray Wallace levelled from a corner that was not cleared properly, which seems to be quite a common source of conceded goals this season. On the stroke of half time, Millwall defender Mahlon Romeo brought down Tyler Blackett in the area which gave Sam Baldock the chance to score from the spot, which he did in convincing fashion sending Ben Amos the wrong way.

The win was sealed four minutes from time when Meite headed home, unmarked, from a corner by Leandro Bacuna. Anssi Jaakola made a number of good saves in a performance that will impress the gaffer.

I said before this game that it was a must win, and thankfully we did. Those invaluable points see us claw our way up the table but there is still plenty of work to be done if Reading want some breathing space, as the team are still just three points from the bottom of the league. Still, we’re heading in the right direction nonetheless and we move onto Birmingham away tomorrow night.
