We Did It!

Reading managed to climb out of the relegation zone at the expense of Rotherham, after beating Blackburn Rovers 2-1 at the Madejski Stadium with a late winner from the returning Nelson Oliveira.

John Swift put the hosts ahead on the stroke of half time, arguably against the run of play when Andy Yiadom cut the ball back to the midfielder and he slotted home.

Midway through the second half, half time substitute Yakou Meite had a glorious chance to put the Royals 2-0 to the good when he was through one on one, but he managed to drag his shot wide.

Amari’i Bell equalised for the visitors with just under ten minutes to go when his long-range effort found the back of the net.

After making a much earlier return than many expected from the injury suffered against Aston Villa, Norwich loanee Nelson Oliveira grabbed the games winning goal with four minutes to spare with a fabulous curling shot from the edge of the box after a superb long ball from the first goalscorer John Swift.

I think this win has been coming for sure. Performances have improved under Gomes and we’ve looked much better. The January additions have made this team much better and hopefully we can use this game to kick on and pick up some more much needed points. Perhaps not Saturday though, as we travel to 3rd place Sheffield United.
