Reading are represented in the latest League Cup team of the round that has been selected after this week’s action.

The performance by Tennai Watson in the two one victory over Brighton last Tuesday at the Amex Stadium was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other most impressive performers in the League Cup competition.

I think we’ll already know ourselves, and not just based on the latest performance, why Watson was selected as part of the team but explaining the choice – the EFL Cup blurb read.

‘Reading went down to 10 men in the first half, but still managed to win 2-1 away from home – the second time in four days the Royals achieved the feat. Tyler Blackett was dismissed before the break and fellow centre-back Liam Moore limped off on the hour, so it was down to 19-year-old Watson and a patched up defence to keep Brighton & Hove Albion at bay.’

It’s always good to see the club represented in this way, and well played to Watson for his recognition, but the most important thing was of course the win.

Full Team:

Ivan Lucic (Bristol City), Matt Targett (Southampton), Kyle Bartley (Leeds United), Tennai Watson (Reading), Erik Lamela (Tottenham Hotspur), Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool), Paddy McNair (Sunderland), Cesc Fabregas (Chelsea), Josh Murphy (Norwich City), Lucas Perez (Arsenal), Simon Makienok (Preston North End).

Manager – Alex Neil (Norwich City).
