The Championship season continued with the latest round of games played on Easter Monday.

Brighton secured promotion to the Premier League – virtually the title too – with a win as Newcastle lost.

Defeat against Wolves saw Leeds drop out of the top-six with Fulham moving above them, into sixth.

Wigan remain second-bottom and five points from safety but Blackburn, 22nd, moved to within a point of Nottingham Forest.

Here’s a round-up of the Championship action from the other games played, with some still to take place.

Fulham made the most of playing against Aston Villa’s 10 men for the best part of 70 minutes when running out 3-1 winners at Craven Cottage. Victory for the Whites – Villa’s second successive defeat – took them above Leeds into sixth and a play-off place.

If Barnsley had held onto their lead they would have moved level on points with Brentford, 11th. The Bees themselves would have moved above Derby into ninth had they claimed all three points at Oakwell.

Birmingham dropped below Burton, 19th, and closer to the relegation zone when the Blues were beaten 2-0 at St Andrew’s – Gianfranco Zola’s resignation was confirmed after this defeat. The Brewers’ win took them four points above the bottom-three, a point better off than their hosts.

Relegation rivals Blackburn and Bristol City played out a 1-1 draw at Ewood Park. Rovers’ equaliser means they are a point off getting out of the relegation zone whereas the Robins remain four points above the bottom-three, extending the unbeaten run to three.

Brighton returned to the topflight for the first time in 34 years after a 2-1 win over Wigan. Albion are a win off being confirmed champions too. The Latics’ first defeat in three keeps them five points from safety with three to play.

A Cardiff win over Nottingham Forest keeps the Bluebirds in with a chance of finishing in the top-10. Forest, 21st, on the other hand are now just a point and a place above the relegation zone.

Ipswich inflicted a 3-1 defeat on Newcastle, which made it two defeats in three for the Magpies – now seven points off leaders (and confirmed as being promoted) Brighton after just a two wins in the last eight. However, they hold a six point lead over Reading, third, and seven on Huddersfield, fourth.

A third defeat in five saw Leeds drop out of the top-six, replaced by Fulham. Wolves 1-0 victory at Elland Road was a sixth in eight but a first in three after previous successive defeats.

Preston and Norwich both saw their unlikely play-off hopes ended. The Canaries, despite this 3-1 win at Deepdale, moved above North End, 10th, into eighth.

A fifth successive QPR defeat was suffered as Sheffield Wednesday retained their top-six position, moving up to fifth, after this 2-1 win at Loftus Road – the Owls hold a two point advantage over Leeds, sixth.

Reading came from behind to beat already relegated Rotherham 2-1 at the Madejski Stadium, denying the Millers a rare win. The Royals, third, are now six points behind second-placed Newcastle but with only three to play it’s unlikely they’ll be able to secure an automatic promotion spot.

Derby equalised two minutes from time at the iPro Stadium to deny Huddersfield a win that could have closed them to within five points of Newcastle, second, with a game in hand too. Town are nearly secured in the play-offs as they’re now five points clear of Leeds, seventh.
