Vital Reading team of the decade

Hahnemann

Only one option to wear the number one jersey, our number one right up until the end of last season and rarely let the club down. Also a massive part of the team that won the Championship in 2005/2006 and finished just outside the european places in 2007/2008.


Murty

Another position that picks itself, was at the club for all but six months of the decade and captained us to, and in, the Premier League.


Ingimarsson

Steve Coppell’s first signing as Reading manager was at the heart of the success during the noughties despite many writing him off as soon as we arrived in the Premiership. Still remains at the club and is now the captain.


Williams

I could easily just select the the 2005/2006 championship winning team but I am giving the second centre back position to Adie Williams. He wasn’t involved in the ‘glory years’ of the decade but helped form the solid foundations in the early years, captained the club and is Reading through and through.


Shorey

Signed for £25,000 from Leyton Orient and went on to play for England whilst still at the club.


Little

The White Pele was one of the most skillful players I have seen at the club during his three seperate spells at the Madejski Stadium. If he wasn’t injured for so long during the year we got relegated from the Premiership, then who knows where we would be now.


Sidwell

Vital Reading player of the decade and possibly the most important player during our succesful Championship winning side. Voted the best player outside the Premiership in 2004 and his value to the side is evident in what has happened since he left the club.


Harper

Was tempted to put in Phil Parkinson but Harper cannot be ignored for his massive contribution to the club in the past decade. Signed by Alan Pardew and scored on his debut against Rotherham, won the clubs player of the year award in 2003.


Convey

We have never had a real stand out left winger in the decade and I have never been a fan of Stephen Hunt, so Convey gets it for his fantastic season in 2005/2006.


Doyle

Unheard of when we signed him from Cork City and went onto become not just an Ireland international but one of their most important players. He scored the goal that got us promoted at Leicester in 2006.


Cureton

A surprise choice you may think considering the other options available – Kitson, Forster, Lita etc. However if it was not for his goal at Brentford back in April 2002 we may never have built the foundations to become a Premiership side. Always a fans favourite during his spell at the club and never failed to score goals whatever level we were at.
