The draw for the first round of the Carling Cup has been made and the Royals will make a long trip to the South West to face Torquay. With the draw regionalised, it was one of the longest trips we could have faced and we haven’t played the Gulls since 1992, when we won 6-1 at Elm Park.

The tie will be played on the week commencing 9th August, with the game most likely to take place on Tuesday 10th August.

Former Royals academy striker Scott Rendall is at Plainmoor and is likely to be involved in the tie, however another former Reading player Lee Hodges was released in the summer and is now manager of non league Truro.

Are you looking forward to the tie, or are you one of those that couldn’t care less about the Carling Cup? Let us know your thoughts!
