Reading’s goal drought may have ended at the weekend but their options up front remain limited. There may be more goals on the horizon, however, as Tommy Smith looks set follow in the footsteps of Royals manager Brendan Rodgers and make the move from Vicarage Road to the Madejski Stadium.

VitalReading understands that the forward underwent a medical yesterday evening and is ready to be unveiled as a Reading player in front of the home fans before this evening’s midweek Carling Cup game against Barnsley.

The Royals have been linked with a move for Smith ever since Rodgers took over the at the club.

The forward would be a welcome addition to Rodgers’ style of football because neither Shane Long nor Stephen Hunt have managed to find their feet in the new system. Only Gylfi Sigurdsson has managed to find the net for the Royals this season, and the imminent arrival of Smith could not come soon enough.

Be sure to return to VitalReading this evening for a full dissection of Reading’s encounter with Barnsley.

Rodgers- “I know for a fact Tommy wants to Join me at Reading” Oh really Brendan. How did the press conference go yesterday?? I heard Tommy failed to show despite all the press turning up for it!

I have no beef with Reading. Before HE turned up I had alot of respect for your club but he has practically destroyed the excellent reputation your club had built up under Coppell. Tapping Smith up, unsettling a player under contract at another club, speaking out about a signing before he had even met him.

You may still get Tommy, but I think for both teams concerned it would be better that you don’t.

The guy (Rodgers) is an ass!!
