They’ll Let You Down Again

Reading travel to Molineux tonight to face the early pace setters, and chronic under-achievers Wolves.

The Royals have been in mouth-watering form at home, destroying all who dare enter the Madejski Stadium, their away form however, is a different story.

Just two points from four away games on their travels doesn’t make good reading for Steve Coppell’s men as they make the trip to Wolverhampton.

Wolves are flying both home and away and have dropped just two points all season, in a home draw with Plymouth on the opening day.

If Mick McCarthy’s men get the victory tonight, they will already be a massive 11 points ahead of the Royals.

After such a great start Wolves are already looking a shoe-in for promotion even at this early stage, but Wolves being the major bottlers they are, nothing is certain.

If the Royals go out and attack Wolves tonight, then they could do enough to peg them back, if they try and shut up shop however, it could be a long journey back to Berkshire.

Vital Quotes:

Royals boss Steve Coppell on the trip to Wolves:

‘Some people have said to me it’s not the right time to be going to Wolves but I think it is, you want to test yourself against the very best that’s out there.

‘We enjoyed that challenge in the Premiership and now in the Championship too.

‘For quite a few weeks now, it’s been time to do something away from home. The onus and responsibility is very much on us to perform in a similar vein to how we have at home.

‘We’ve had a different style away, but it’s not by intent. We treat every one on a par and we go into every one to win, that will be our mentality again for this game.

‘Maybe we need to be a bit more conservative away from home but it’s not our nature. I prefer us to be positive and on the front foot. We look to win games rather than sneak them.’

Wolves Team News:

Wolves have first choice keeper Wayne Hennessey back in goal after his one-match suspension and he will replace Carl Ikeme.

Player to watch: Sylvain Ebanks-Blake

Without a doubt one of the best strikers in the division. Andre Bikey will have to be on his best form tonight to keep Ebanks-Blake quiet.

Reading Team News:

James Harper is still sidelined after missing the win over Swansea on Saturday, so Jem Karacan and Bryn Gunnarsson should continue in centre midfield for the Royals.

Graeme Murty and Michael Duberry are still sidelined and Steve Coppell will almost certainly stick with the side that won on Saturday.

Player to watch: Stephen Hunt

Hunt has been a big part of Reading’s great start to the season and his final product has evidently improved. His entusiasm and work rate rubs off on the players around him and his set-piece delivery could be the deciding factor here tonight.

Match Facts & Stats

After seven league wins in a row, Wolves will equal a club record set in 1989 if they get number eight against Reading.

Match Prediction:

Part of me thinks Wolves will romp this and part of me thinks the Royals will sneak a win. A really tough one to call and a game that could turn the season, even at this early stage.

My prediction: Wolves 1-3 Reading

You have the score right my friend – but you have it the wrong way around! Wolves 3 Reading 1.
Iwelumo might be out – suspended, but we have Ebanks-Blake and Keogh! You might be able to put the block on Kightley but then Jarvo will skin you!
Stearman will pay close attention to Mr Doyle – why not give him the night off!
But never mind – as long as we are Champions – I would love to see Reading back in the Prem where they were really unlucky to be relegated. You have a fine club and a great manager…

I think Reading will convert there home form into away form today. So prepare to have the Royals beat you. Woves 0-2 Reading.
