Reading were narrowly defeated by a strong Everton side, despite Clarke making 8 changes to the side that beat Bristol City.

This showed us Reading fans how strong our squad really is.

It also showed how well Clarke is coaching them and they’re buying into his philosophy, which is fantastic to see from a fans perspective.

New signings Fernandez, Hurtado, Piazon and John all started their first in a Reading shirt, whilst Taylor and Al-Habsi started their first at home. Roberto Martinez kept near enough his best eleven with Barkley, Lukaku, Stones and Jagielka all starting.

Comparing the two line ups, all I could imagine was a one side affair, but it was far from that which is a credit to Steve Clarke and his players.

The new boys grew into the game as it went on and produced some lovely moves, the best one resulting in a goal.

Tshibola, Cooper and Hector also put on fine performance, highlighting the success of our academy.

With around about 17 or 18 players looking like worthy starters, is this the best Reading squad you’ve seen in the last decade?
