The Rantings of a Mad Man

Following Reading’s incredible first season in the Premier League, you could forgive fans for their ambitions of building on last years success.

John Madejski has other ideas however, and has slammed the fans for their high expectations.

Despite Madejski and Chief Executive Nigel Howe promising that money would be spent in order for the Royals to reach ‘the next level’, after two fairly uneventful transfer windows, the Royals have found themselves in the relegation zone.

Earlier in the season there were even plans to extend the stadium capacity to 38,000, these plans have since been shelved due to the Royals’ struggling form.

With many fans voicing their opinions over the team’s poor performances this season, Madejski has hit back.

He told the Reading Evening Post, ‘I think people have to be realistic at times.

‘What we`re about is community and regardless of what their perception is of Reading, we have to remember where we`ve come from and the ginormous strides we`ve made to get to where we are. It`s remarkable.

‘I do believe that people should be a bit more moderate about their expectations and be more realistic and just remember what we`ve come from.

‘Let`s be thankful for what we`ve got.’

Contrasting views from a Chairman, who at the end of last season, felt that Reading had the ambition and drive to establish themselves as a Premier League side.

It seems the fans are now being slated by the man who originally put the propaganda of unrealistic expectations in their heads.

Mr Madejski’s words hardly sound like those of a man who believes his club can continue to grow, and after continuously stating he will listen to suitable offers for the club, it seems that this summer a new owner could be vital for the future of Reading FC.

The title says it all!!!! Unfortunately I think the club will suffer more long term if relegated than if they spent millions in the transfer market! You can’t continue to make loads of money in the prem without good investment! I think that everyone should look at the Job the board and managers have done at Everton – this season they are breaking into the elite clubs, are having a sucessful european campaign and are starting to see the benifits of investment in the team!

Yeah, everton are a good example of what can be done if the CLUB not just the team is managed succesfully. I wouldnt mind JM coming out with crap like this if he hadn’t already spouted aload of nonsense about us becoming a top 10 club, as well as raising season ticket prices to finance potential big money moves that never happened. He’s done wonders for reading, but it is clear he’s not only interested in selling up and making as much money back as he can. For the good of the club i hope we find an investor sooner rather than later.

and to cap it all for you lot – didn’t he recently suggest he’d be willing to listen to offers if a rich man came along?

  • uroyals says:

Yep, but he’s obviously pricing anyone out of a deal. Maybe Warren Buffett would like to buy us.
