The Rantings of a Mad Man

Following Reading’s incredible first season in the Premier League, you could forgive fans for their ambitions of building on last years success.

John Madejski has other ideas however, and has slammed the fans for their high expectations.

Despite Madejski and Chief Executive Nigel Howe promising that money would be spent in order for the Royals to reach ‘the next level’, after two fairly uneventful transfer windows, the Royals have found themselves in the relegation zone.

Earlier in the season there were even plans to extend the stadium capacity to 38,000, these plans have since been shelved due to the Royals’ struggling form.

With many fans voicing their opinions over the team’s poor performances this season, Madejski has hit back.

He told the Reading Evening Post, ‘I think people have to be realistic at times.

‘What we`re about is community and regardless of what their perception is of Reading, we have to remember where we`ve come from and the ginormous strides we`ve made to get to where we are. It`s remarkable.

‘I do believe that people should be a bit more moderate about their expectations and be more realistic and just remember what we`ve come from.

‘Let`s be thankful for what we`ve got.’

Contrasting views from a Chairman, who at the end of last season, felt that Reading had the ambition and drive to establish themselves as a Premier League side.

It seems the fans are now being slated by the man who originally put the propaganda of unrealistic expectations in their heads.

Mr Madejski’s words hardly sound like those of a man who believes his club can continue to grow, and after continuously stating he will listen to suitable offers for the club, it seems that this summer a new owner could be vital for the future of Reading FC.
