Vital Reading season preview
Club: Wolverhampton Wanderers
Ground: Molineux (Capacity: 30, 852)
When we face off: Sun 28th September (H), Sat 7th February (A)
Last season finish: 1st – League One (promoted)
Manager: Kenny Jackett – After six years at Millwall, Jackett felt the need for a new challenge and found that at Wolves, and made an immediate impact at Molineux. After years of turbulence at Wolves, Jackett used all of his experience to guide Wolves to the League One title in comfortable fashion, giving them defensive stability, which provided the platform for their promotion.
Key player: James Henry – The former Reading man joined Jackett at Wolves last season, after working together for several years at Millwall. Henry made a good impact at Wolves too, scoring six goals in his 22 appearances last season and will now hope to prove himself in the Championship. As we saw in his brief first team spell here, he has a very gifted right-foot and very good set-piece ability.
Season Preview: Wolves will want to follow the Southampton model if any – a big club going all the way down to League One, bounce back straight away and get consecutive promotions back to the Premier League. Obviously, that is easier said than done, but Jackett has build a squad that can be capable of doing just that. He has some very good attacking options in Sako, Dicko and Henry, but would maybe want to bring in some defensive reinforcements if injury strikes. Wolves shouldn’t be involved in any relegation scrap and could make a surge on the play-offs if the players click at this level.
