Vital Reading season preview

Club: Doncaster Rovers

Founded: 1879

Nickname: Donny

Ground: Keepmoat Stadium (Capacity: 15,231)

When we face off: Sat 19th October (H), Sat 26th April (A)

Last season finish: 1st – League One (promoted)

Manager: Paul Dickov – The former Oldham manager took the reigns at the Keepmoat, after Brian Flynn opted for a director of football role, rather than taking the managers job on a permanent basis. Some were surprised at Dickov’s appointment as manager, considering his lack of experience at Championship level, but the 40-year has plenty of potential.

Key player: Harry Forrester – Young Forrester earned many admirers with some of his performances at his previous club Brentford, with some Premier League clubs registering an interest. However, with Forrester a free agent, the young midfielder made the move north to Doncaster, which raised a few eyebrows. Donny don’t seem to have many game changing and eccentric players in their squad, so Forrester could provide that needed spark and flair in the final third.

Season Preview – Doncaster went against usual form, when they bounced straight back up to the Championship from League One last season. Like many other promoted teams, they could find it hard to remain in an ever-improving competitive division, unless you improve with it – if that makes sense! The signings of Forrester and Furman are smart buys, but I’m sure Dickov will want to exploit the loan market in coming weeks too.
