Tabby: I’m getting fitter every game

Reading midfielder Jay Tabb has admitted he is enjoying his spell in the Royals starting XI, saying he is getting fitter by the game.

The 28-year old made his third start of the season against QPR on Sunday and was once again, one of Brian McDermott’s top performers. Known for his tenacious and terrier-like attitude in central midfield, Tabb has admitted it is a great feeling to be back on the pitch and also praised his midfield partner Mikele Leigertwood for his goal contribution.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Tabb said: ‘It’s another game we could have and perhaps should have won. Al’s made a great save from the free kick and also from Taarabt when he was through on goal – you’d put your money on him scoring there. A draw might have been a fair result, although from our point of view we feel that we could have won.’

‘I felt good out on the pitch and I feel like I’m getting fitter every match. But I don’t want to blow my own trumpet; it’s a team game. We have a great squad which will be important this season. I enjoyed playing with Ledge, he’s a good partner to have in midfield and he’s scored a couple of goals recently which is good for him.’

Some Royals fans questioned McDermott’s choice to put Tabb in the team ahead of Danny Guthrie in recent games, with me included. However, I think Jay has done superb in centre-midfield and proved how in the words of Noel Hunt, is one of the most unselfish players in the team, hence why he is still looking for his first Reading goal!
