Reading midfielder Jay Tabb has said he is happy to stand in for the injured Mikele Leigertwood, even saying he believes Leigertwood is the best midfielder in the league.

The former Coventry player played the whole game in the 2-1 win at Watford in Leigertwood’s place, forming a decent partnership with Jem Karacan in centre midfield.

Tabb told the Reading Post: ‘When Ledge is fit I think he will play. I would do that if I was the manager. It`s not that I`m resigned to losing my place. I just know that Ledge is No.1 and then if me and Jem Karacan keep playing well, because he did well before, he will keep his place.’

‘It`s unfortunate that Ledge is going to be injured for a few weeks, but it was nice to play against Watford last week. Ledge is the best midfielder in the league. As soon as he and Jobi McAnuff are fit then the team will be better off.’

Leigertwood has picked up a thigh injury that could keep him out for over a month, missing a crucial six to seven game period. This could mean a potential look-in for want-away midfielder Brian Howard, who is looking to leave the Madejski Stadium.
