Leicester boss Sven Goran Eriksson has publicly admitted his interest in Reading striker Shane Long.

However, the former England manager said he is not confident of gaining the services of the Republic of Ireland international, as he feels he will move to a Premier League side.

The Foxes manager told BBC Radio Leicester: ‘He is one on the list but he may end up in the Premier League this season, so it will be difficult, but he is one we have worked with.’

Reading have already rejected a bid for their star striker from West Ham and Vital Reading reported yesterday that Long could be interested in a move to the East London club.

Although, it has been reported that Sam Allardyce will move onto other targets after giving up on Long, considering the price Reading are asking for was too financially demanding.

West Brom and Celtic are still keen on the 24-year old and Reading apparently seem keen to sell their key asset as they could potentially lose him for nothing next summer, when his current contract runs out.

In other news, Noel Hunt, Jay Tabb and Ibrahima Sonko will be playing against Farnborough tonight as a Royals XI take on the Yellows at the Rushmoor Stadium.

Not sure what you’re opinion of him is, but i’ve always thought Long is replaceable. He had a fantastic season last year, and has come on leaps and bounds from what he was a couple of seasons ago, but if you compare him to the strike trio that saw you gain promotion last time (Doyle, Kitson, Lita) Is he really any better? Cashing in wouldn’t be the worst thing ever, would it? Manset looks like a decent prospect, and the money generated could see an ample replacement moved in. For me, Mills is a far greater loss than Long would ever be

Don’t get me wrong, Long is a good all round player (fast, strong, good in the air and has a good finish) but £7m is a big ask and would be a big risk for that amount of money but I reckon he could crack it. Agree it could well be Manset’s chance or even Church for that matter, who is going to show his true goalscoring potential soon. Disagree about Mills, would rather have kept Long every day of the week. Mills was a solid defender but was prone to mistakes on the odd occasion. But we now have a decent replacement in Khumalo from your team (I presume) Spurs. What have you seen of him? Is he any good?

Never seen Khumalo play live, but caught a glimpse of him at the Vodacom Cup in South Africa – looks quite solid and has a large physique. Probably better asking a Preston fan more about him though, as he’s never played a competitive match for us.

Yeah, seems pretty solid but I have only seem him play once and that was last week. When he has already played for his country 22 times and has won South Africa’s Premier League he must be some good, I look forward to him playing more though
