Superman Returns!

The man they call Superman was back to his best as Reading coasted to victory against a poor Plymouth side.

Ibrahima Sonko, who had a season to forget last year, got both the goals in a comfortable victory for the Royals.

Sonko had fallen out of favour with Reading boss Steve Coppell after refusing to play in a reserve game at the end of the season, but he proved his commitment to the Royals with a solid defensive performance and to headed goals.

Sonko scored two identical goals in a game where Plymouth rarely threatened the Reading goal.

The first came on 13 minutes as Sonko met a Stephen Hunt corner at the near post to head past former Reading ‘keeper Graham Stack.

Bobby Convey had the chance to make it two, but a pass from Jimmy Kebe unfortunately fell onto Convey’s right foot and he blasted over.

Four minutes into the second half and the Royals went two nil up. Again a Hunt corner was met at the near post by Sonko who put the game beyond doubt with another powerful header.

The Royals remained in control throughout and could have won by more had Convey hit the target with another right-footed strike and Leroy Lita was unlucky with a speculative bicycle kick.

It was a big win for the Royals and more importantly an impressive performance to help silence the critics after a couple of dismal away displays.

Next up for Reading is Charlton at the Valley, a win for the Royals would see them top the table, for a few hours at least.

Everyone played well to be fair. I was really impressed with Cisse and Kebe, Rosey played really well as well.
