Reports today have suggested that Sunderland have now upped their interest in Royals winger Stephen Hunt, and have made a fresh £4.5million bid.

Reading have twice previously knocked back Sunderland, after the club from the north east came in with bids thought to be in the region of £2.5million and £3.5million.

Despite Sunderland’s apparent desperation to sign the Irishman, Royals boss Steve Coppell remains adamant the former Brentford player is not for sale. He said, ‘Sunderland can come calling every day, they will get no positive response from us in that direction.

‘We would like our core players to be happy staying here.’

Hunt has been in excellent form this season, he has seven goals to his name already and has established himself as an Ireland international.

Although his manager has ruled out selling him, Hunt himself is a little more unsure of his future and has admitted he could be tempted by a move to Sunderland.
