Stoke City have stepped up their interest in signing Reading captain Matt Mills, by making an approach to the Berkshire club, enquiring how much it would cost them to take him to the Brittania Stadium.

Stoke boss Tony Pulis has already failed in an attempt to bring defender Scott Dan to the club after a £16m bid (along with Cameron Jerome) was rejected by Birmingham.

This huge tranfer fee appears to show that Stoke could meet the Royals valuation of £4m for their star defender.

Meanwhile, Leicester have also joined in the race to sign the former Doncaster player, with Sven Goran Eriksson keen to add to his squad, following recent investment in the club.

They are already in talks about signing Preston’s Sean St Ledger but are keen to add another defender to their squad, following the departure of former Liverpool player Jack Hobbs.
