Jaap Stam confirms he tried to raid his former club for a striker in the summer, but proved unsuccessful.

The recent rumour that has been doing the rounds is our reported interest in Manchester United’s James Wilson, who will most likely be going out on loan in January. There were a few offers for the young striker in the summer, but had only just returned from a long-term injury.

Stam confirmed to the Reading Chronicle that the Royals were one of the teams in for the 21-year old, but United weren’t keen on letting him go without a proper recovery from injury. It could well mean that the Royals will return for an offer in January, with a striker high on the list.

The Sun are running the story that Reading will be chasing for his loan signature, with Leeds also reportedly amongst the suitors. Wilson went on loan to fellow Championship side Derby County last season, but injury halted his spell and had plenty of competition for a place.

After our long struggles with trying to find a striker, I don’t think many fans would complain with Wilson and his clear pedigree. With questions marks still looming over Bodvarsson and injuries halting Mendes and Kermorgant’s progress, it would be silly not to pursue him.
