Spurs Reserves Well Beaten

The Royals` second string picked up an emphatic win against Tottenham`s Reserves tonight, on what was very positive and productive evening for the club.

Striker Kevin Doyle and Icelandic utility-man Brynjar Gunnarsson returned from injury with no ill-effects, whilst new signings Greg Halford and Michael Duberry enjoyed solid debuts in the blue and white hoops.

It turned out to be a comfortable win for our boys, although Spurs actually started the better and it took the Royals a little while to get into their stride.

Gunnarsson and Seol Ki-Hyeon both clipped the bar before Kitson put us ahead, with midfielder John Oster brilliantly releasing Bobby Convey in the build-up.

Skipper Ulises De La Cruz made it 2-0 with an excellent individual goal after the break, and both our two opening goals were well started by new-boy Halford.

Gunnarsson tapped home a rebound from Doyle’s shot to score a third, and Oster stabbed home the fourth following a nice move by Convey and substitute Simon Cox.

The win keeps Brian McDermott’s men in a strong position at the top of the Reserve League. We are three points clear of second-placed Chelsea with a game in hand.
