Spurs Reserves Well Beaten

The Royals` second string picked up an emphatic win against Tottenham`s Reserves tonight, on what was very positive and productive evening for the club.

Striker Kevin Doyle and Icelandic utility-man Brynjar Gunnarsson returned from injury with no ill-effects, whilst new signings Greg Halford and Michael Duberry enjoyed solid debuts in the blue and white hoops.

It turned out to be a comfortable win for our boys, although Spurs actually started the better and it took the Royals a little while to get into their stride.

Gunnarsson and Seol Ki-Hyeon both clipped the bar before Kitson put us ahead, with midfielder John Oster brilliantly releasing Bobby Convey in the build-up.

Skipper Ulises De La Cruz made it 2-0 with an excellent individual goal after the break, and both our two opening goals were well started by new-boy Halford.

Gunnarsson tapped home a rebound from Doyle’s shot to score a third, and Oster stabbed home the fourth following a nice move by Convey and substitute Simon Cox.

The win keeps Brian McDermott’s men in a strong position at the top of the Reserve League. We are three points clear of second-placed Chelsea with a game in hand.

It’s great to see Doyler and Bryn come through un-scathed, and minutes for Kitson is also a good thing. It was a very strong side that was fielded today, and by the looks of things Halford and Duberry both did well. The future’s bright… the future’s blue and white!

To be honest, Rogue, I’d be quite happy for that team to line-up against Man United in the cup this weekend (given Coppell’s policy in cup competitions). A good performance tonight saw us extend our lead at the top of the reserve league!

spot on thomas! i think it would be a great team to line up against manutd. reserve games are proving beyond a shadow of doubt we have strength in depth and i think coppell would be an idiot not to play these players.
I would put Lita, Little, Sidwell and Ingy on the bench along with Hahnemann and i think we have a real good chance of playing in the next round!

I must confess to being very impressed with the strength of your side put out last night. as a spurs fan, although the result didnt go our way. It will only do our young reserve side (only cerny and ifil have any first team experience) a world of good playing against such a strong side. I must congratulate the reading management, unlike many prem teams (spurs included) for actually playing squad players in the reserves, which must keep the the players not only match fit but help acclimatise the new boys into the teams style of play.

    great! bothered?

the thing is unlike teams like spurs we will very often not change our starting eleven. ever! its only injury and losses that change it and the spine of the team almost always stays the same – so these are our reserves. as oxford spur says it is good for other teams youth to get a good game too! i can only assume the tailor is upset that reading have put 7goals past spurs!!
