West Bromich Albion made a surprise capture of Reading`s Sam Sodje at the end of last week. Sodje has joined the Baggies on a month long loan deal.

Sodje was drafted in by WBA boss Tony Mowbray as cover after injury ended Curtis Davies`s season and the suspension of Martin Albrechtsen meant that West Brom were short at the back.

‘Sam will bring both a real competitive edge and athleticism to the team,’ commented Mowbray ahead of Sodje`s move to the Midlands based club, ‘He’s as big a presence in the opposition box as he is defending in his own penalty area because he attacks the ball exceptionally well.’

And since then Sodje has played his first competitive game in a Baggies shirt. Sodje started the local derby match against Birmingham on Sunday morning. The match was vital to both clubs who are chasing automatic promotion to the Premiership.

The game ended in a draw a 1-1 draw between the two sides but Mowbray was very impressed with Sodje`s performance:

“Sam did very well,” he said “I can`t remember him putting a foot wrong.”

Personally, I think it’ll be good for Sodje to get some regular first-team football before the end of the season. Remember, he came from Brentford which are two leagues below us, so going to WBA who are contending for the Premiership will be good experience.

turned on skysports saturday morning to see him donning a WBA shirt! i was quite suprised, watched most of the game to see how he got on and think he was pretty decent.

it makes you wonder though doesnt it? there was panic in the jan transfer window “we need defenders!” and now we have so many we loan them out! MADNESS!

In my opinion, there’s still plans for Sodje here at Reading and I hope this is just a short-term deal. Sodje’s been captaining our reserve team lately, and I think that shows Coppell’s intent. He’s in need of first team football, and at promotion chasing WBA, there’s an ideal opportunity.

Sodje’s look like mince-meat in the Premiership. It’s about time he went down a league or two to where he belongs!

Sodje’s a badman, we always see him down KFC with Leroy and Sonks!

I hope he comes back to Reading he is a superb defender! He is great going forward too, I’ve seen him in a reserves match and he is a menace in the air for corners.

Sodje has failed to break into the first team and a spell at another club will do him good. If he can play well for WBA it may turn Coppel’s head into picking him

Havent commented for a while so hello to everyone! Sodje is a good player, but Im not sure he is of the quality we need… there are a few other s too who i think might be ushered out the door – the money we make for them could buy us some awesome talent.
