After another home disappointment, Jobi McAnuff isn’t hiding away from criticism, saying the team need to play better.

The 3-1 loss to Barnsley at the Madejski on Tuesday night meant that we are now winless in five home games, scoring just two goals. The performances have probably been the most frustrating aspect, but the skipper says the players need to earn the fans’ support.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Jobi said after the game: ‘We’re not playing great at home. Regardless of whether you’re playing home or away, first and foremost you have to turn up. And for long periods against Barnsley we didn’t.’

‘We’ve got to get the fans on our side, and we do that with our performance. It wasn’t good enough, but it’s going to take a team effort from everybody – the players on the pitch, the fans and everybody – to try and get over the line.’

After some strong quotes from the manager, it is also good to see Jobi coming out and expressing his disappointment. He mentions that the team need to give fans to give something to shout about, but I think it really think it works two ways.

The way the fans were behaving the other night was awful. They were on the players’ back ten minutes in, which doesn’t help. It is clear they lack confidence at home and it really isn’t going to help by booing and sarcastically cheering passes.
