Reading skipper Jobi McAnuff has sympathised with his manager and the situation he finds himself in, but says his track record will benefit the Royals long-term.

The Royals face Brendan Rodgers’ improving Liverpool side at the Madejski Stadium this Saturday, which really is the last chance saloon for Nigel Adkins’ side to keep alive any hope of safety. The former Saints boss has lost his first two games in charge, but the captain is looking forward to the future under the new boss.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Jobi said: “The manager is very positive, it`s a tough situation for him to come into but he`s got a great track record, that speaks for itself. We now have to prove to him that we deserve to be here. He`s trying to implement his ideas onto the team, but those things will take a little bit of time.’

‘He`s got a very good record of getting teams promoted and putting them in better positions than when he took over. He`s got a good policy of bringing youngsters through the system as well, which will benefit the club looking forward. That`ll definitely benefit us in the long term.”

It’s good to see Jobi finally talking about the long-term, rather than trying to justify the short-term and staying in the division, when it is looks ever more unlikely. Will Jobi be a part of this future? For the next two seasons possibly, but can’t see him being here beyond his current contract.
