Shorey Could Remain a Royal

Reading Director of Football Nick Hammond has stated that Nicky Shorey will not necessarily be leaving the Royals this summer.

The England international has been at the top of the list of players to leave Reading, but as the club has received no bids for the full back, he could yet be in blue and white come August.

‘People are working on the assumption that Nicky Shorey will move on during the summer,’ said Hammond. ‘But it simply hasn’t gone that far.

‘Nobody has made us an offer for the player and even if they do it does not necessarily mean he will go.’

Shorey, the second longest serving player at Reading, could have bowed out gracefully as a potential Royals legend.

Unfortunately his eagerness to leave the club, combined with his inflated ego following a couple of England call-ups has led to many Reading fans wishing him good riddance.

He was booed by a small section of the crowd at home to Tottenham in the relegation season and he simply turned around and laughed at the crowd.

Although he may be a quality player, he is no longer wanted at the club he attempted to turn his back on in January.

There may have been no bids for the full back, but surely it is too late for the talented defender to attempt to reconcile with the Reading faithful.

There are so many clubs interested in him I will be very surprised if he’s wearing a Reading shirt on the opening day of the season.

If he stays you will have agreat chance of bouncing straight back to the Premier. If he goes can you find an adequate replacement?
