Reading manager Steve Coppell admits he was happy for Leroy Lita to turn down a move to Sheffield Utd and insists the striker is still part of his plans.

Lita has had long loan spells away from the Madjeski over the past two seasons, the latest a three month loan to Norwich where he scored seven goals in fourteen games.

The striker rejected a move away to Bramall Lane in favour of fighting for his place in the Royals starting line up, this followed clear the air talks with Coppell, where the former England U21 international admitted he had matured and his attitude was now in the right place.

Speaking on the RFC website Royals boss Coppell said,

‘He has set the marker with the way he’s been training, it’s been terrific,’

‘We had a bid and I’m more than happy for Leroy to stay and compete for a place.

‘He’s under contract to the summer and I can’t think any further than that.

‘Obviously we’re waiting to see what happens with our own future, we’re determined to be successful.

‘What happens at the end of his contract depends on a lot of things. Like a lot of clubs we’ve got a fair few players out of contract, it’s not just Leroy.’

Coppell is likely to stick with the same side that beat Watford 4-0 at the Madejski for their visit to Swansea, as the Royals look to apply more pressure on Championship favourites Wolves. This would see Lita start on the bench at the Liberty Stadium this weekend.
